West Gardiner Historical Society
People interested in preserving and sharing the history of West Gardiner. The society
keeps the town’s documents, photographs and artifacts, and has catalogued 200-year-old
homes with historian Elaine Goodwin.
It is building a new museum building at 310 Spears Corner Road, across
from the Helen Thompson School playground, with a dedicated climate-controlled room
funded by a $25,000 donation from the Thompson family.
Meetings are held at the Auxiliary Hall; times vary, so check the
society page. Contact: Debra Couture, (207) 582-3897.

Cobbosseecontee Snowmobile Club
A small, family-oriented club with its clubhouse in the Town Auxiliary Hall across from
Helen Thompson School. It maintains more than 25 miles of snowmobile trails
linking Gardiner, Litchfield, Farmingdale and Hallowell, and hosts seasonal trail rides
and trail work days with breakfast at the clubhouse.
The club also gives holiday food baskets to town residents in need — one of the ways a
snowmobile club turns into a civic organization.
314 Spears Corner Road. Meetings on the first and third Tuesdays
from September to April, then monthly May–August, with a potluck supper at 6:15 pm on
the third Tuesday.
G

scholarships for graduating West Gardiner high-school seniors, and sells plant and
nature photography greeting cards at voting days and the annual town meeting.
